SUPPORT TO THE MANAGEMENT AND USE OF GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION IN BURUNDI, IMPLEMENTATION OF A DATA EXCHANGE PLATFORM

The Post Conflict Rural Development Project (PPCDR) financed by the 9th EDF (Project n°9 ACP BU 019) in its component 3 plans to improve the condition of use and linkage of information, amongst others geographic information and thus existing GIS.

General Objectives:
Implementing a national framework for inter-ministerial exchange and between institutions and projects eventually allowing for spatial data analysis as well as the implementation within the IGEBU of an operational Geographic Information System with a framework for its use.

Specific Objectives are:
1.To analyse the existing system and the needs in terms of databases and Geographic Information Systems.
2.To establish a national framework for data management and exchange specifying the role of each stakeholder in particular the IGEBU’s role.
3.To support the revitalisation of cartographic activities and implementation of a GIS in the ISEBU.
