SUPPORT TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SUB-REGIONAL ACTION PLAN FOR THE CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF THE SHARK POPULATIONS (PSRA-REQUINS)

To support the implementation of the sub-regional Action plan for the conservation and sustainable management of the shark populations coordinated by the Sub-Regional Fisheries Commission (CSRP).

The expected results of the assignment are :

i)    a reconversion programme of the actors of the shark chain of custody towards other economic activities, including an estimate of the cost of reconversion for each country concerned;
ii)    proposals for improvement and increased coherence of the national regulations concerning the management of sharks in the CSRP countries, taking into account the objectives and recommendations of the PAI-requins, ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas), the PSRA-requins, the PAN requins. The national regulations will also have to take into account the recommendations of ICCAT for the conservation of pelagic sharks;
iii)    recommendations are formulated to assist the CSRP member states to implement their reconversion programmes and to undertake the required changes of their national regulations concerning sharks.
