MARKET ORIENTED SMALLHOLDER AGRICULTURE PROJECT (MOSAP)

The main objective of this project will be to generate a broad-based and sustainable increase in the income of rural smallholders of the targeted areas, through the improved efficiency of agricultural production and marketing.
The strategy of the project will be to create an enabling environment to improve the livelihoods of rural smallholders by : (a) building on potential synergies with other programs and existing infrastructures; (b) maximizing opportunities for quick-win results; (c) strengthening the skills of producers and their associations, as well as of extension staff and agricultural services providers with which they interact; (d) recapitalizing productive systems and infrastructures; and (e) by providing access to agricultural services and markets. As far as possible, investments should be based on a flexible, participatory and demand-driven approach, and should strive to ensure the economic sustainability of agriculture activities.
The target group of the project will be smallholders on the selected areas with potential to grow and become commercial-oriented and economically self-sustainable producers.
