MAPPING STUDY OF NON-STATE ACTORS AND CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS IN NIGERIA

The European Commission is desirous of achieving the objectives of the Cotonou Agreement, Millennium Development Goals, Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness and the Accra Agenda for Action, as well as improving civil society performance and accountability. Civil society in Nigeria continues to exist largely because of donor presence. If the principles and goals enunciated by the instruments and initiatives listed above are to find their vitality beyond paper, the current nature of EC engagement with civil society and NSAs may need to be reviewed. This can however only be possible where the European Commission has an updated overall view of the nature of non-state actors in Nigeria, and the context in which they operate.
Specific Objective
The specific objective of the assignment is the mapping of a sample of non-state actors/civil society organisations in Nigeria to contribute to an increased knowledge and understanding by the Contracting Authority, of the types, roles and capacities of such entities in Nigeria.
