TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO THE AID PROGRAMME FOR FOOD SECURITY IN HAITI – PASAH

The programme will help achieving the first millennium development goal on hunger 1c; it means reducing by half the percentage of population suffering from hunger, from 1990 until 2015. It will take place in the North-West, North-East, and Centre departments and partly in the South and Arbonite departments. The election of the area of intervention and the focus on food security aims at making the best use of actions already started by the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR) in partnership with other development agencies to increase food availability, access to healthy quality food and globally eradicate hunger and malnutrition in the country. The last census of the National Food Security Coordination (CNSA) identifies the North-West, South and Arbonite departments as departments with the highest level of food insecurity. This choice also combines with EU actions in the infrastructures sector. The north department (Cap Haïtien) is not included in the targeted departments because it has received considerable attention from donors for the agricultural sector; moreover this department will be included in the new USAID strategy called “Corridor Nord”.
